What to look for in a Pelvic Care Acupuncturist!

If you’re looking for pelvic care support, you’re probably feeling pretty vulnerable. Finding the right pelvic care acupuncturist is important to begin this healing journey. The person you work with has to be someone who you feel comfortable with AND knows what they’re doing!

As a Pelvic Care Acupuncturist, I wanted to share some of the things I’d recommend looking for in yours:

  • It’s All About Energy:

    • Do a little research… Most private acupuncturists have websites, blogs and social media. These are great ways to get a taste of your practitioner’s energy. Many also offer 15 minute discovery calls, where you can briefly tell them about your condition, ask questions and ultimately determine if you’re a good fit for each other.

    • Let your instincts lead you and trust yourself. You are the authority of your health. A positive, respectful therapeutic relationship is crucial for the effectiveness of the treatment.

  • Education:

    • With healthcare, I believe training is important. People without training or education can call themselves ‘healers’. While ‘healers’ may have been passed folk medicine through their lineage or have an intuitive gift, your pelvic health may not be the place to experiment. It’s important to verify that your acupuncturist has completed formal education in acupuncture and holds a valid license or certification to practice acupuncture in their state or jurisdiction.

  • Specialized Training in Pelvic Health:

    • You can look for acupuncturists who have undergone additional training or certification specifically focused on pelvic health.

    • Inquire about their training in treating conditions related to the pelvis, such as reproductive health issues, pelvic pain, or urinary and bowel disorders.

  • Experience:

    • Consider the practitioner's experience in treating pelvic health conditions. Experienced acupuncturists may have a more nuanced understanding of the complexities associated with pelvic issues.

    • Ask about the number of years they have been practicing and their success in treating similar cases.

  • Client Testimonials and Reviews:

    • Reviews, especially those on google are linked to a name. So, it’s pretty unlikely that John Smith is going to publicly say, “My acupuncturist helped me to move beyond erectile dysfunction. Or that Mary Sue Davidson says, “My acupuncturist really helped me with my bowel and bladder leakage.” These details are a bit too personal for most to share in public.

    • But… you can look for client testimonials or reviews about the practitioner that trend positively.

  • Communication:

    • Effective communication is essential. Make sure that the acupuncturist you choose to work with helps you to feel seen and heard.

    • Ensure that the acupuncturist understands your medical history and any relevant details about your pelvic health.

  • Holistic Approach:

    • A good pelvic care acupuncturist will take a holistic approach, considering the interconnectedness of physical, emotional, and energetic aspects of health.

  • Collaboration with Other Healthcare Providers:

    • Many clients view their providers as their healthcare team. This can be really important in moving forward with a particular practitioner. You can inquire about the acupuncturist's willingness to collaborate with other healthcare providers, such as gynecologists, urologists, or physical therapists, for an integrated approach to pelvic health.

  • Clean and Safe Environment:

    • Every acupuncturist has their own esthetic and brand, as well as personality which will show up in their practice. That may draw in or push you away. The key is that the acupuncturist provides and clean and safe environment for your sessions.

Hopefully, this framework helps you to formulate your plan for finding a Pelvic Care Acupuncturist near you. If you are local to NH you can check out my schedule here.
